Types of Narrative

There are several variations of narrative that can feature in a documentary film.

The narrative can be searching for answers… ‘How?’, ‘What?’,’Where?’, ‘Why?’ or it could be presenting an argument for the viewers. This is the kind of narrative I tend to find the most engaging as it invites me to make my own mind up about an issue. The final type of narrative is one which makes a claim. It presents the filmmakers reality and no other viewpoint. It ends with a metaphorical ‘!’ or ‘.’

News is a very different beast to documentaries, it is all manipulated and politically led.
